First Neighborhood Meeting 6/14/14 at 11am at Tuman's Tap

After receiving over 100 responses to the "neighborhood options survey" for the area bound by Grand/Chicago/Damen/Western, we conducted a thorough analysis of the survey results. We took the lead to reach out to the presidents of Chicago Grand Neighbors Assn (CGNA) and Ukrainian Village Neighborhood Assn (UVNA) to solicit feedback on either joining with one of their organizations or forming our own. After reviewing several pros and cons, in consultation with the president of East Village Assn (EVA), they recommended forming our own neighborhood organization. Since that time, we've reached out to the Smith Park Neighborhood Alliance (SPNA), the local CAPS facilitator, and Alderman Maldonado's office to make them aware of the recommendation and formation of a steering committee. We have received positive support from everyone!

We are reaching out to invite you to the first meeting of the steering committee on Saturday, June 14th at 11am at Tuman's Tap located at Chicago Ave and Leavitt.  The purpose of the initial steering committee meeting is to:

  • establish relationships of self-interest and reasons for desiring a neighborhood organization
  • create a vision of the neighborhood organization
  • review survey results, including pros and cons of joining an existing neighborhood organization or forming our own
  • identify ways each individual can contribute talents and skills
  • set dates for future steering committee meetings and a larger community forum

We hope you can join us for the initial steering committee meeting on June 14th. If you cannot attend, but you'd still like to get involved in future meetings, simply email neighborhoodoptions60612@gmail.com.

Please share this information with neighbors. Fliers will be distributed throughout the neighborhood as well.

From your neighbors Liz Kuhn of 2200 Race and JW Glass of 500 Leavitt
